Loss raises questions about Asheville mayor’s future

Here’s an excerpt from the Asheville Citizen-Times article:

That Mayor Terry Bellamy would lose in her effort to win a seat in Congress came as a surprise for some.

That she would suffer such a walloping loss left political observers stunned enough Wednesday to question Bellamy’s political future despite her determined rise from childhood poverty to become the first African-American to hold the city’s highest office.

Bellamy finished a distant second in primary voting Tuesday in the 10 District Democratic primary.

N.C. Rep. Patsy Keever won the race with 58 percent of votes case. Bellamy won 27 percent. Timothy Murphy, of Rutherfordton, came in third with 16 percent.
