Mayor Bellamy supports appointment of Mayor Foxx for Transportation Secretary

Full announcement from Mayor Terry Bellamy:

I want to personally thank Secretary Ray LaHood for the wonderful work that he did as the United States’ Secretary of Transportation. Through his support multi-modal transportation systems, Asheville was able to successfully transform our transit fleet.

I would like to personally thank President Obama for appointing Mayor Anthony Foxx as the new United States Secretary of Transportation. Mayor Foxx has worked tirelessly as the Mayor of Charlotte to ensure that Charlotte has a strong multi-modal transportation system. He aggressively supports an integrated system that meets the growing needs of the citizens of Charlotte as well as those who work and live in the region.

As a member of the North Carolina Metropolitan Coalition of Mayors, I have personally worked with Mayor Foxx on transportation issues and have witnessed firsthand his commitment to partnering with the state and federal governments to provide funding for the various transportation modes within Charlotte. The citizens of Charlotte have made a strong commitment to public transportation through their support of a local sales tax, which Mayor Foxx and the Charlotte City Council have used to leverage additional funding to make their transit system one of the most efficient and effective systems in the State of North Carolina.

I am sure that Mayor Foxx will provide the same level of innovation and collaboration as the United States’ Secretary of Transportation. I look forward to working with him on issues impacting the City of Asheville.
