MedWest-Haywood holds open house for The Homestead inpatient hospice facitilty

From the press release:

CLYDE – MedWest Health System will hold an open house for The Homestead inpatient hospice unit on the MedWest-Haywood campus from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, March 18th. Everyone is welcome to attend. A dedication ceremony is planned for 2 p.m. with tours and refreshments to follow.

The Homestead is the only inpatient hospice unit west of Asheville and is open to patients from across the region, with a physician’s referral.

“MedWest is honored to care for patients and their families in western North Carolina with services that are focused on the highest level of compassion at what could be considered the most critical time in a patient’s life,” said Jenny Williams, director of Hospice and Palliative Care Services for MedWest Health System.

The Homestead project was spearheaded by the HRMC Foundation, with funding based on charitable contributions including overwhelming support from the community, grant funding, and a generous donation from the estate of Bernice T. Medford. Friends of Hospice also provided fundraising support.

“Our community continues to demonstrate its capacity for giving in support of much-needed services that benefit so many families in our region,” said Steve Brown, executive director of MedWest Foundations.

The Homestead has six beds, with plans to expand to 12 beds in the future. The Homestead is staffed by an interdisciplinary team of end-of-life experts including physicians, nurses, social workers, nursing assistants, a music therapist and spiritual and bereavement counselors. A second phase is planned for The Homestead and will include an outreach center focusing on outpatient hospice services.

The Homestead is located at 127 Sunset Ridge Road. Turn off Hospital Drive onto Spicewood Drive beside Mountain Medical Center and take the first left onto Sunset Ridge Road.
