From Mission Health

Asheville, N.C. (April 15, 2013) – For the second consecutive year, Mission Health was named today as one of the nation’s Top 15 Health Systems by Truven Health Analytics, formerly the healthcare business of Thomson Reuters. The Truven Health study identifies the nation’s 15 best health systems and is the only study that aggregates both individual hospital and health system-level performance to allow health system leaders and consumers to understand how to identify and compare leaders in clinical quality and efficiency.

“It is an incredible honor for Mission Health to be named one of the nation’s Top 15 Health Systems again this year,” said Ronald A. Paulus, MD, President and CEO of Mission Health.
“This ranking recognizes our commitment to exceptional care, clinical excellence and, most importantly, the community we serve. As the leader in advanced medical care for western North Carolina, it is important that our community knows that they have an important asset in Mission Health always ready to serve their needs. Our dedicated caregivers, physicians and Board of Directors are the reason we are able to achieve such a remarkable honor for two consecutive years.”

Mission Health outperformed others by saving more lives and causing fewer complications, following industry-recommended standards of care more closely, making fewer patient safety errors and scoring better on overall patient satisfaction. In each and every category, Top Health Systems outperformed their peers from around the nation.

Truven Health’s analysis contained more than 300 organizations – almost every U.S. system with two or more acute-care member hospitals, including critical access hospitals. The study is a quantitative study that identifies 15 health systems with the highest achievement on clinical performance, efficiency and patient satisfaction based on the 100 Top Hospitals National Balanced Scorecard methodologies, which analyzes data submitted by every hospital in a standardized manner.

This recognition comes on the heels of Mission Health’s flagship hospital, Mission Hospital, being named one of Truven Health’s Top 100 Hospitals for the fifth consecutive year, and Transylvania Regional Medical Center being named one of the Top 100 Critical Access Hospitals by iVantage Health Analytics both just last month.

“This honor is a direct result of the outstanding efforts our caregivers make each day at Mission Health,” said William Maples, MD, Senior Vice President and Chief Quality Officer at Mission Health. “Being named a Top 15 Health System again this year means our caregivers continue to achieve exceptional outcomes and deliver high quality care. The data in this study is driven by how successfully – not how often – hospitals treat patients. Our BIG(GER) Aim is to get each patient to their desired outcome, first without harm, also without waste and with an exceptional experience for every patient and family. We strive to exceed patients’ expectations and work as a team to improve every aspect of the care we provide to the people of western North Carolina. I am honored to work with such exceptional people.”
