Moon Taxi headlines Carolina West RibFest, July 11

Moon Taxi will arrive in Asheville on less than a week after opening up for The Motet and Umphrey’s McGee at the legendary Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Colorado. They are the headline act on Friday, July 11 at the Carolina West RibFest which is taking place at the WNC Ag Center in Fletcher July 11-13.

After breaking into the national spotlight in 2012 with their album Cabaret, the 4-piece band out of Nashville has followed up with Mountains Beaches Cities which has received glowing reviews such as this one by Jack McManus of “relix”, “Mountains Beaches Cities has full-scale ambitions and an appetite for adventure, with songs that dive boldly into unexpected time signatures, surprising moments of intimacy or bombast, cross-genre experimentation and the band’s own twisted visions of pop conventionality.”

Opening for Moon Taxi will be Asheville’s very own Travers Brothership, who is garnering attention nationally while dodging genre labels.

About the Carolina West RibFest

The Carolina West RibFest is the new incarnation of the Carolina Mountain RibFest which was started eight years ago by local event promoter John Patterson who had to step down this year due to health concerns. Taking over this year is Greensboro-based AKA Entertainment & Media, a production company that produces five other  barbecue festivals including the 10 year old Texas Pete Twin City RibFest in Winston-Salem.

Says AKA’s Allen McDavid, “the new name is an integral part of transitioning the festival so that it will appeal to a younger and broader audience. Bringing in acts like Moon Taxi are part of that strategy.”

Moon taxi is a 5 piece band, not a 4 piece as stated above. Trevor on guitar and vocals, Tommy on bass, Spencer on guitar and midi/synth, Wes on keys, and Tyler on drums. It would be nice if more information was given, like concert times, or where one could get tickets, and how much tickets are. From what I’ve heard, Moon Taxi will be playing from 8:30-11. Cheers!
