Nashville instrumental band STEELISM plays The Altamont Theatre, Dec. 12

East Nashville’s STEELISM will be in Asheville at the Altamont Theatre on Friday, December 12. The instrumental band was recently profiled on NPR Weekend Edition for its new album, 615 to FAME – kind of modern Space Age bachelor pad music crossed with countrypolitan and 60s film soundtracks.

Founded by UK pedal steel player Spencer Cullum and guitarist Jeremy Fetzer, Steelism has toured with their Single Lock labelmates St. Paul and the Broken Bones as well as Deer Tick, Caitlin Rose, and others. Cullum also plays pedal steel on the road with Miranda Lambert.
Check out their new video “Marfa Lights” which was inspired by vintage educational shorts and the British BBC comedy show “Look Around You.” The video was filmed in Nashville and directed by Nashville filmmaker/musician Stewart Copeland.

NPR’s Ann Powers writes, “The Nashville instrumental group Steelism stands out for its ability to blend vintage styles – steel-guitar jazz, surf rock, the cool vibe of 1960s movie soundtracks – in ways that don’t feel dated.” They were also just included in Rolling Stone Country’s “10 New Artists You Need to Know,” who recommending the album “for Fans of Duane Eddy, Don Ho, Santo and Johnny, Ennio Morricone, Caitlin Rose and Kraftwerk.”
