National Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball Team to play Asheville benefit games

The Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball team will be playing 2 games. One with the Softball Smashers from the Asheville Park League and the other with a team made up of First Responders from Asheville and Buncombe County. There will be a raffle for VIP tickets to the Bank of America 500 NASCAR race later this year in Charlotte and a raffle for a basketball autographed by Roy Williams commemorating his 700th win.

For the first time in our region, the nationally known Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball Team will be playing exhibition games on Friday, May 17 at McCormick Field and Saturday, May 18 at West Henderson High School in Hendersonville. Coinciding with Armed Forces Weekend, the event will be an inspiring celebration of our nation’s veteran’s all benefiting Operation Welcome Home, a program established by HonorAir. Operation Welcome Home, A Veteran’s Scholarship Fund, provides job opportunities for former military personnel at ABCCM’s Veteran’s Restoration Quarters and Transitional housing facility in Swannanoa. All proceeds from this event will directly benefit veterans in Western North Carolina.

It will be an event ball players will never forget.

About WWAST:

The national Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball Team (WWAST), represents some of our nation’s bravest and most determined heroes, soldiers and veterans. These young extremely athletic men have sustained severe injuries resulting in amputation while serving in the military/war, and through extensive rehabilitation, they have become competitive athletes again.

Their armor now includes prosthetic legs and arms, along with extreme perseverance and attitude. Together they comprise the NATIONAL WOUNDED WARRIOR AMPUTEE SOFTBALL TEAM.

What is the WWAST Exhibition?

The WWAST Exhibition is an event to benefit Operation Welcome Home, An HonorAir program. Nearly 20% of the homeless populations in America are displaced veterans. Operation Welcome Home, a veteran’s scholarship fund, provides support and job training opportunities for former military personnel at the Veteran’s Restoration Quarters and transitional housing facility in Swannanoa, “An ABCCM facility.”
