NC unemployment rate falls to the lowest in more than six years

From State of North Carolina Governor Pat McCrory:

Raleigh, N.C. – Governor Pat McCrory released the following statement after North Carolina’s unemployment rate decreased to 5.5 percent in December, adding more than 15,000 jobs over the month and 191,800 since the governor took office:

“The latest report released today continues to show that North Carolina is headed in the right direction when it comes to creating jobs and rebuilding the economy,” said Governor McCrory. “While we are seeing more and more positive news on our economy, we must continue making the tough decisions that will move our state forward in a positive direction.”

The unemployment rate dropped to 5.5 percent for the first time since April of 2008. North Carolina added 15,100 jobs over the month and 114,500 over the year. Since Governor McCrory took office, the unemployment rate has dropped from 8.8 percent to 5.5 percent, and the number of jobs has increased by 191,800.
