Here’s an excerpt from the Raleigh News & Observer:
A controversial bill requiring North Carolina’s health instructors to teach students that abortions can cause premature births in later pregnancies is headed to the Senate floor.
The Senate Health Committee approved the bill Wednesday in a close voice vote that sparked objections from Democrats. The bill requires those in seventh grade and higher to learn about the risk factors of premature birth and specifically includes abortion as a cause – something critics challenged as misleading.
Sen. Warren Daniel, R-Burke and the bill’s lead sponsor, said his legislation is about science, not political ideology.
