NCDOT accepting public input on Comprehensive State Rail Plan through Mar. 21

From the NCDOT website:

NCDOT is currently preparing a Comprehensive State Rail Plan (CSRP) that will define a vision for North Carolina’s existing and future rail infrastructure, and identify a program of projects and services for the state’s rail system that will provide quantifiable economic and quality-of-life benefits to residents, businesses and industries.

Freight and passenger rail networks contribute approximately $1.88 billion in direct economic impacts per year for North Carolina. For freight, this reflects savings in shipping costs (rail vs. truck), pavement costs (i.e. wear and tear on roads), and congestion costs (travel time impacts for other vehicles based on the number of trucks on the road). For passenger rail, this includes direct Amtrak jobs, purchases of goods and services, and tourist spending, as well as pavement and congestion savings from trips that would otherwise be made by automobile.

Please provide us with your input on the vision, recommended projects, studies, and funding recommendations presented in the Comprehensive Statewide Rail Plan by answering the survey questions here.
