New Madrid plays Broadway’s on Friday, Aug. 23

Athens, Ga.-based psychedelic rock band New Madrid is set to play Broadway’s on Friday, Aug. 23. Local acts The Hermit Kings and Doc Aquatic share the bill.

“New Madrid recently signed to Normaltown Records, the imprint of esteemed New West Records (Steve Earle, The Whigs, Ponderosa), and has just finalized their sophomore album at Chase Park Transduction Studios,” says press for the event. “As with their debut album Yardboat, acclaimed Athens producer David Barbe, best known for his work with REM, The Drive-By Truckers and Son Volt, was at the helm. Yardboat earned the band ‘Album of the Year’ while their lauded live show secured them “Artist of the Year” at Athens’ Flagpole Magazine Music Awards show this past June.

“With reverb-drenched vocal harmonies that soar over a lush and textured musical framework, New Madrid’s wall-of-sound live shows have been compared to My Morning Jacket and Animal Collective. Their 2014 sophomore full length seeks to capture the darker and heavier psychedelic soundscapes that make their ever-evolving live show a must-see experience.”
