Local jewelers “take over” Mora: One-day-only holiday event showcases Asheville talent
Mora is turning over all of its display cases to jewelry made in Asheville on Saturday, December 13, 2014, from 10:00am until 7:00pm. For one day only, the downtown boutique will showcase the talents of contemporary jewelry artists living and working in the community. Fifteen local jewelers will be participating, and Mora is hosting an afternoon reception to meet the jewelers from 2:00-5:00pm. The event is free, and all are invited to attend.
“The idea came to me from seeing craft brewery tap takeovers. Mora’s equivalent to beer taps are its display cases, and I wanted to see them filled with one-of-a-kind jewelry pieces hand-crafted right here in Asheville,” said Mora owner Marthe Le Van. “The number of high-quality jewelers that live in this area is astonishing and growing rapidly. Asheville is already recognized as a creative hot spot within the jewelry community. The aim of the takeover is to draw local attention the amazing work being made here, to connect the jewelers with their audience, and to give holiday shoppers the opportunity to purchase jewelry handmade in Asheville.”
Mora’s “Local Jewelry Takeover” will feature jewelry by: Erica Stankwych Bailey, Liz Clark, Audrey Laine Sawyer, Molly Dingledine, Geoffrey D. Giles, Joanna Gollberg, Arthur Hash, Anna Johnson, Deb Karash, Lisa Klakulak, Shana Loconsole, Stacey Lane, Matthew Smith, Terry Taylor, and Laura Wood.
This lineup includes eight special guest jewelers who are not regularly represented at the store. They are Erica Stankwych Bailey, Audrey Laine Sawyer, Molly Dingledine, Geoffrey D. Giles, Arthur Hash, Deb Karash, Shana Loconsole, and Terry Taylor. In addition, three of of the participants–Erica Stankwych Bailey, Liz Clark, and Arthur Hash–have just relocated to the area.
All are welcome to celebrate the season, view locally made jewelry, meet the jewelers, and support Asheville’s creative economy at this one-day, pop-up event.
