Outdoor Industry Association works with RiverLink

From a Press Release:

Outdoor Industry Association works with RiverLink

On Tuesday, October 7, local environmental non-profit RiverLink teamed with CEOs and other executives from the Outdoor Industry Association to clean the French Broad River and install some permanent infrastructure for the community. The workday was sponsored by Timberland with refreshments provided by New Belgium Brewing.

One team of intrepid volunteers boarded rafts from the Nantahala Outdoor Center and put in at the Asheville Outdoor Center, collecting 32 bags of trash and 11 tires from the French Broad. The land-based team worked to install picnic tables and bike racks at the RiverLink Performance and Sculpture Plaza, 144 Riverside Drive in the River Arts District. The Plaza is the home of RiverLink’s RiverMusic, and the amenities will be a good addition to the summertime concert series.

Also accomplished that day was a planting of 30 Spirea by the riverbank and a cleanup of the RiverLink Labyrinth, located at the site of the old Asheville Cotton Mill.

Based in Boulder, CO, the Outdoor Industry Association (OIA) was founded in 1989 and is the leading trade association and voice of the outdoor recreation industry, serving more than 4,000 manufacturers, distributors, suppliers, sales representatives and retailers in the active outdoor lifestyle. RiverLink is a regional nonprofit working to make the French Broad River and environs a place for everyone to live, work and play.
