Pardee Hospital receives top “A” grade in Leapfrog’s Hospital Safety Score seventh consecutive time

From a press release:

Pardee Hospital has once again received an A grade for its commitment to protecting patients from accidents, errors, injuries and infections. The Leapfrog Group awarded Pardee another top score in its Spring 2016 Hospital Safety Scores, released April 25 to the public. Of the 2,571 hospitals nationally who were assigned a score, Pardee is among the top 31%. This marks the seventh consecutive time that Pardee has received an “A” rating, and places the hospital in the top 5% of hospitals with straight “A’s” since 2013.

“We are truly honored and pleased to have been awarded an “A” by the LeapFrog Group in their Hospital Safety Score for the seventh consecutive time.  This sort of continued acknowledgement from the LeapFrog Group speaks to our institutional and cultural commitment to patient safety. We share this recognition with each of our team members at Pardee Hospital, all of whom come in contact with patients in one form or another,” stated Dr. David Ellis, Chief Medical Officer, Pardee Hospital.

Hospital Safety scores are calculated under the guidance of Leapfrog’s Blue Ribbon Expert Panel, using 28 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to produce a single “A,” “B,” “C,” “D,” or “F” score representing a hospital’s overall capacity to keep patients safe from preventable harm. The Hospital Safety Score is fully transparent, and its website offers a full analysis of the data and methodology used in determining grades.

“Safety should come first for our families when we pick a hospital, because errors and infections are common and deadly,” said Leapfrog CEO Leah Binder. ” To see how Pardee’s score compares locally and nationally, and to access safety tips for patients and their loved ones, visit the Hospital Safety Score website at www.hospitalsafetyscore.org. Consumers can also download a free Hospital Safety Score app.

The Hospital Safety Score is an initiative of The Leapfrog Group (www.leapfroggroup.org), a national nonprofit organization using the collective leverage of large purchasers of health care to initiate breakthrough improvements in the safety, quality and affordability of health care for Americans. The flagship Leapfrog Hospital Survey allows purchasers to structure their contracts and purchasing to reward the highest performing hospitals. The Leapfrog Group was founded in November 2000 with support from the Business Roundtable and national funders and is now independently operated with support from its purchaser and other members.

The Leapfrog Group is an independent industry watchdog and its hospital safety rating is the only one to be peer-reviewed in the Journal of Patient Safety. The Leapfrog scores are free to the public and designed to give consumers information they can use to protect themselves and their families when facing a hospital stay.
