Pardee ranked 13th “best hospital” in North Carolina

Hendersonville’s Margaret R. Pardee Hospital has been recognized for its quality of service in the 2015 U.S. News & World Report “Best Hospitals” rankings, which the publication released on Tuesday. The regional care facility ranked 13th in the state, the first time it has ever appeared on the list.

Pardee, which was opened in 1953, serves Henderson County and the surrounding area with 222 acute care beds and 238 physicians and specialists on staff. The nonprofit facility is managed by UNC Healthcare and is the first and only hospital in North Carolina with International Organization for Standardization accreditation, according to Pardee’s website.

U.S. News & World Report, which also named Pardee a “Best Regional Hospital in the Mountains,” singled out its heart failure, hip replacement and knee replacement procedures and conditions as “high performing”, meaning it met or exceeded thew national average.

In an official press release on the ranking, Pardee President and CEO James M. Kirby II says “”it is an honor to be recognized as a top hospital in our state and region. As a community hospital, we look forward to continuing our high standard of care for those in Henderson County and the surrounding areas.”

David Ellis, chief medical officer at Pardee, adds that the ranking is “a testament to the great work of our physicians and staff,” whose “dedication and service to our patients [made] this achievement possible.”

The second largest employer in Henderson County, with over 1,200 employees, Pardee also features several off-campus sites and facilities, including a Rehab & Wellness Center, Health Education Center, Urgent Care and comprehensive physician practice network.

Each year, U.S. News and World Report ranks hospital facilities and care across the country, based on the results of over 5,000 evaluations. Asheville’s Mission Hospital also appeared on the list, ranked at number five statewide.
