Parkway Playhouse offered $30k challenge grant by anonymous donor

Press release from Parkway Playhouse:

Parkway Playhouse is excited to announce that it has been offered a Challenge Grant by an anonymous donor. With this grant Parkway Playhouse will receive $30,000 if it raises $15,000 for the operating fund between October 1, 2016 and January 31, 2017.

The grant will match $2 for each $1 donated by new donors (those who have not previously donated to Parkway Playhouse) and lapsed donors (those who have not donated for the past two years).  Furthermore, the grant will match $2 for each $1 increase in the amount current supporters donated between October 1, 2015 and January 31, 2016 (for example, if you donated $100 last year and donate $150 up until January 31, $50 will be eligible for the grant).  This challenge grant effectively triples your contribution or the increase in your contribution.

“Our goal is operate our theatre with a small surplus,” says Parkway Playhouse Managing Director Kristen Livengood, “We’re thrilled to have this opportunity, and we’re working hard to spread the word. Five hundred letters went out a few weeks ago, and we are asking everyone for whatever support they can give right now. It’s a great time to give to Parkway Playhouse and have your generosity tripled. We are getting close to our goal of operating with a small surplus as we did last year… opportunities like this don’t come along very often. Please help us take advantage of it.”

The Challenge Grant funds will go into the Parkway Playhouse Capital Improvement Fund (CIF). Funds from the CIF were used to purchase and install the air conditioner / heaters this past August. We will use the CIF to continue to make improvements to the Parkway Playhouse facility.  Parkway Playhouse is a 501(c)(3) organization. Contributions are tax-deductible to the extent and manner allowed by law.

Please donate today to Parkway Playhouse (or by January 31) to help us receive this grant!

Parkway Playhouse, located in Burnsville, NC, opened its first production in 1947. For years it operated as a summer-extension program where college students would spend several weeks each summer honing their craft. Parkway Playhouse has continued to make education and making high-quality live theatre available to visitors and residents of the Western North Carolina Mountains. The theatre is now a thriving year-round performing arts company that takes tremendous pride in its history, community, and future.
