Asheville, N.C. – Pisgah Legal Services has certified navigators available to assist uninsured area residents access affordable coverage through the new health insurance marketplace created by the federal Affordable Care Act. Navigators can help individuals and families determine if they are eligible to receive financial assistance to pay for health insurance, including premium tax credits and cost-sharing reductions. Navigators can also help residents in understand the many health insurance plan options that are available through the Marketplace at healthcare.gov.
Many Western North Carolina residents are eligible for financial assistance, which makes accessing comprehensive health insurance affordable for their families. Having comprehensive health insurance can lead to better health outcomes for individuals. At Pisgah Legal Services we see the financial impact that a lack of health insurance can have on families. Unmanageable debt from medical bills is often a factor in foreclosures and bankruptcies.
Pisgah Legal Services’ volunteer navigators are ready to answer questions and assist consumers to access the Marketplace. According to navigator Kitty Schaller, “I’m glad to help Western North Carolinians understand their health insurance options under the Affordable Care Act and help them enroll in an insurance plan. People tell me they are grateful and relieved they came.”
To access insurance through the Marketplace, consumers must apply by March 31st. To make an appointment with a Navigator please call 855-733-3711. Appointments are available Monday – Friday and many Saturdays at various locations across Western North Carolina.
Pisgah Legal Services is a nonprofit that has helped low-income people in WNC meet their basic needs, such as protection from domestic violence, avoiding homelessness, finding safe housing, and accessing health care and subsistence income, since 1978.
