Planned Parenthood protest planned for Aug. 22

From Life Advocates:

Asheville, North Carolina, August 12, 2015 — In response to recent admissions by Planned Parenthood officials about its practice of harvesting and selling aborted baby parts, Life Advocates and concerned citizens of Asheville are protesting at the Planned Parenthood facility, 68 McDowell St, Asheville, NC on Saturday, August 22, from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. This effort is part of a National Day of Protest taking place at Planned Parenthood offices and abortion facilities across the United States, to raise awareness about the trafficking of baby parts. (See: http://www.ProtestPP.com.)

The ProtestPP.com coalition is sponsored by 50 state and national pro-life groups. The event is scheduled for more than 200 locations including Asheville, Raleigh, Charlotte, Chapel Hill, and Winston-Salem in North Carolina, as well as in Columbia, South Carolina, and Knoxville, Tennessee. Several states have initiated investigations of Planned Parenthood, and recent legislation has been introduced in Congress to defund the abortion giant. Planned Parenthood currently receives over $500 million in taxpayer funding annually.

“The recent videos showing Planned Parenthood’s callous disregard for human lives have awakened us to the importance and urgency of defunding it,” said Meredith Hunt, director of Life Advocates and long-time Asheville anti-abortion activist. “There is a lot of quiet prolife support in our region, and we’re hoping for people to come out now and say they don’t want their tax money going to this basically criminal, murderous organization anymore.”

Undercover videos (https://www.youtube.com/user/centerformedprogress) released by the Center for Medical Progress reveal that Planned Parenthood abortion clinics, with the sanction of the Planned Parenthood Federation of America, are involved in the harvesting of body parts of pre-born children who are aborted in their facilities, and in profiting from the sale, contrary to federal law. The videos show high-level Planned Parenthood executives haggling over the prices of fetal specimens. The videos also raise ethical questions about the exploitation of pre-born children for financial gain and the risks to women’s health if abortion procedures are altered solely to procure more profitable baby parts.

“Time and time again, Planned Parenthood lies to us,” Matt Bradley, spokesman for the #ProtestPP event in Asheville, NC said. “Now they’re caught in a scandal of selling aborted baby body parts. Every abortion produces two victims: the mother and the baby. The mother can suffer from depression, post traumatic stress, thoughts of suicide, and future premature deliveries. We need to protect all prenatal children and mothers from abortion. Everyone needs to write their representatives in Congress to demand that they defund Planned Parenthood.”
