RBC Bank honors three local teachers with cash award for teaching excellence

From the press release:

Asheville, N.C. – January 31, 2012 – RBC Bank recently honored three teachers in the Asheville area, each with a $500 award as part of its eighth annual Tribute to Teachers program, which recognizes deserving educators who demonstrate exceptional community leadership. Cynthia Norman, a teacher at Fletcher Elementary School in Fletcher, Steve Sigmon, a teacher at North Henderson High School in Hendersonville and Lisa Rogers, a teacher at Apple Valley Middle School in Hendersonville were the local winners. The teachers were three of 50 school teachers across the Southeast honored by RBC Bank during the Tribute to Teachers fall awards period.

“Tribute to Teachers is an important way that RBC Bank has chosen to show its appreciation for these outstanding teachers in our community,” said Jeffrey Scharps, regional president for RBC Bank. “This year, more than ever, teachers find themselves having to do more with less. So, we are thrilled to be able to offer each of these winners the $500 awards that go with this recognition.”

Teachers Norman, Sigmon and Rogers were selected from more than 2,200 nominees throughout the bank’s six-state Southeastern footprint (Alabama, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia).

RBC Bank donated $25,000 this fall to be used toward the purchase of classroom learning tools through this program. Altogether, the 2011 spring and fall programs will bring RBC Bank’s Tribute to Teachers total giving to $50,000 in individual awards to selected teachers and $4,000 in shopping sprees to the two winners selected at random for the grand prize school supply shopping spree.
