Red Herring Puppets performs “Aesop’s Fables” at ACT on Sept. 3

PRESS RELEASE FROM ASHEVILLE COMMUNITY THEATRE:

Asheville Community Theatre (ACT) kicks off their family-friendly theatre series Saturdays at ACT with Red Herring Puppets’ Aesop’s Fables. Aesop’s Fables will be performed on Saturday, September 3, 2016 at 11:00 am. Tickets are $5.00 and are available for purchase at the door, over the phone, or online at www.ashevilletheatre.org.

Red Herring Puppets have created an original rhymed version of the classic tales told with music and large tabletop puppets. These timeless stories are simple to understand and address topics relevant to school age children such as bullying, selfishness, competition, ingenuity, and the affirmation that little beings can achieve great things.

This production has earned an UNIMA citation of Excellence – the highest honor in American Puppetry. The show is designed for pre-K through 5th grade and includes “The Lion and the Mouse,” “The Tortoise and the Hare,” “The Owl and the Grasshopper,” “The Fox and the Crow,” “The Crow and the Pitcher” and “The Stork and the Fox.”

Artistic Director, Lisa Aimee Sturz, has built puppets and props for Disney Imagineering, Henson’s Creature Shop, Industrial Light and Magic, ABC, The Ice Capades, Biltmore Estate, Shedd Aquarium, Ft. Fisher Aquarium and the Field Museum of Chicago. Lisa was the Puppetmaster for the Lyric Opera of Chicago’s presentation of Wagner’s RING and the Jacob’s School of Music’s The Magic Flute. Film and television credits include Muppets from Space, Elmo in Grouchland, Murphy Brown, The Flintstones, Fire in the Sky, Ninja Turtles III, Batman II, MuppetVision 3D, Captain Eo, RoboCop II, Howard the Duck, and the Academy Awards.

The show will be performed by puppeteers Lisa Sturz and John Jones.

The Saturdays at ACT series will feature six performances over the course of the season from different local producers and companies, including Asheville’s own Bright Star Touring Theatre and Lisa Sturz’ Red Herring Puppets.

“Our Saturdays at ACT series is a great way for the whole family to experience theatre,” said Chanda Calentine, Program Director at ACT. “Lisa’s shows are truly magical experiences!”
