RiverLink hosts session on contracting with City of Asheville to create public art, Sept. 22

Join RiverLink and Brenda Mills next Tuesday, — Sept. 22 — to find out how artists can become contractors for the City of Asheville. RiverLink is pleased to offer these special two-hour interactive free information sessions at RiverLink’s Warehouse Studios, 170 Lyman Street from 10 a.m. to 12.

Brenda Mills is an Economic Development Specialist with the Office of Economic Development for the City of Asheville. Brenda has been in Western North Carolina (WNC) since 1992 working in the public sector for over 23 years with an emphasis on entrepreneurship supporting both Buncombe County and the City of Asheville’s initiative on minority business and community outreach.

This next phase of training artists on how to be public artists is to increase and encourage a greater response to the city’s future calls for artists on future public projects. This free training will highlight an actual call for artist process, general overview of public contracting basics, resources and how to connect.

RiverLink’s popular Wilma Dykeman RiverWay plans call for economic development that focus on the core strengths in our watershed – recreation in all its forms from manufacturing to retail, health & wellness and arts and crafts.

Located in Asheville’s River Arts District, RiverLink is a regional organization spearheading the economic and environmental revitalization of the French Broad River watershed as a destination where everyone can work, live and play.

We accomplish our mission by providing permanent public access to the river through conservation and recreation easements, reclaiming contaminated lands for public use, greenway development, creating public no-fee, no-reservation overnight camping sites along the river protected by conservation and recreation easements, adaptive reuse of historic structures, educating the public and students k – 12 about the importance of the river and empowering 1,700 volunteers annually.
