Roots + Wings School of Art and Design announces new creative campus in Asheville

Press release:

Roots + Wings School of Art and Design will be opening its new Creative Campus in Asheville’s Oakley neighborhood this summer. The new headquarters facility will expand programming for all ages and create opportunities for greater community participation and outreach.

Working with ages three and up, Roots + Wings offers programs that encourage and develop imagination, creativity, innovation, critical thinking and confidence so students are better equipped to thrive in life. Ginger Huebner, the founding director of Roots + Wings, said, “My dream has always been to build a school where students of all ages can grow creatively over time and experience the power of art and design to promote positive and significant changes within themselves and their communities. Our new Creative Campus is going to offer a unique venue where even more people can discover their creativity, be inspired by one another, and engage their community.”

The new facility will include: Visual Arts Preschool program for ages 3-6, an after-school Community Design Lab program (with snow day and teacher workday coverage) for grades K-5, and Spring and Summer Creativity Camps and Design Studios (including intersession programs for year-round schooling) for ages 3 through grade 12. The facility will also host INNOVATION HOUR field trips for students from other schools and home school programs. In addition, the facility will offer music, recording and film programs, birthday celebrations, weekend classes and open studio time for all ages, along with adult art retreats and workshops, professional development for teachers, and corporate team building programs.

The campus will be located on a one-acre site at 573 Fairview Road. As part of its commitment to sustainable development, Roots + Wings is renovating a 9,000 square foot brick building on the site, adding a new natural playground and extensive new landscaping to create an urban oasis with outdoor learning opportunities for all ages. Heritage Restoration & Construction is serving as general contractor for the renovation. Brickstack Architects is the architect of record for the project.
