Sensibilities Day Spa donates sales Heart of Horse Sense

Press release from Sensibilities Day Spa:

Asheville, NC – Sensibilities Day Spa today announced Heart of Horse Sense is the non-profit of choice to receive 20% of its sales as part of Sensibilities Cares, a program dedicated to giving back to the community. On Tuesday, March 15, Sensibilities will donate 20% of its sales to Heart of Horse Sense, a grassroots non-profit organization that provides Therapeutic Horsemanship, including Equine Assisted Psychotherapy Therapeutic Riding, and Natural Horsemanship to veterans, their families and to at-risk youth.

“We often donate gift certificates, funds, products and time to local non-profits, but to commemorate our 15-year-anniversary in 2014, I asked Sensibilities staff members to collaborate on the development of a charitable-giving program and as a result, the Sensibilities Cares program came to be,” says Jen Charlton Locke, founder and owner of Sensibilities Day Spa, with locations in downtown Asheville and Biltmore Park.

On March 15, “Heart of Horse Sense will be the seventh cause to benefit from Sensibilities Cares, says Charlton Locke. “This unique non-profit allows individuals and at-risk youth within our community to receive therapeutic wellness through equine therapy while saving horses from abuse and neglect”.

The Heart of Horse Sense story begins in 2003, when Shannon Knapp founded Horse Sense of the Carolinas, to rescue horses from abuse and neglect and to partner these horses with people who could benefit from the unique therapeutic opportunity horses offer. After almost a decade, “We could no longer serve all the Veterans and At-Risk Youth that were asking for and in need of equine therapy for free. So we created Heart of Horse Sense, a 501c3, to fundraise specifically for Veterans and At-Risk Youth, whether for services at our farm or other farms,” says Shannon Knapp, Founder and Executive Director.

“Horses make the therapy process dynamic and often fun, especially for those for whom traditional therapy hasn’t been effective or helpful. Horses make all the difference for so many. “We’re honored to be a part of the healing process for our veterans, and to provide practice in important life skills like communication and self-advocacy for young people. We’re especially grateful to our community and to Sensibilities for the support to have such an impact in the well-being of horses and humans”!
