Solarize WNC builds momentum, holds public forum series

From The Canary Coalition:

Public Forum Series Continues in Canton, Thursday, May 28, 7 PM

The first solar contract has been signed, with two more pending.  Thirty-six people have enrolled in the Solarize WNC program. Eight comprehensive energy audits have been completed.  The Solarize WNC campaign is up and running and gathering steam.

About 130 people have attended the first public forums held by Solarize WNC in Cullowhee, Franklin, Waynesville and Bryson City.  The next forum will be Thursday, May 28, 7 PM at Saint Andrews Episcopal Church, 99 Academy Street, in Canton.

Two more forums are scheduled; one in Highlands on June 10; and one in Cherokee on July 7.

Solarize WNC is a joint campaign between The Canary Coalition, a non-profit environment organization based in Sylva, and Clean Energy for WNC, a group affiliated with similar successful campaigns in other parts of the state.   At each forum people are shown a presentation by solar energy and energy efficiency contractors who have been vetted for their reliability, honesty and proficiency.  The presentation is followed by an in-depth question and answer period.  Participants who choose to enroll in the program are offered a free solar site assessment, a discounted home energy audit using the most modern, sophisticated equipment and discounts of about 18% below the national average for the installation of a solar energy system.

In addition to the public forums, the Solarize WNC campaign is reaching out to local businesses, industries and local governments to offer economical solar energy systems and energy efficiency projects for their buildings to reduce monthly energy bills, thereby increasing business profits and saving taxpayers money.  One local government body has already agreed to meet with the Solarize WNC team to discuss the possibilities.  The Solarize WNC campaign will release more information about this when a final date has been established.

People can enroll in the Solarize program online at http://www.cleanenergyfor.us/clean-energy-for-wnc/

Or, hard-copy enrollment forms can be filled out at the forums.  People who enroll are under no financial obligations, but they are entitled to the benefits should they decide to move forward.

It isn’t necessary to enroll if you just wish to attend one of the forums.  Forums are free and open to the public.
