Southeastern Street Dance/B-Boy Championships at New Mountain, Sept. 12

The Southeastern Street Dance/B-Boy Championships return to Asheville for the sixth year. The family-friendly event featuring dance competitions, workshops and performances is held at New Mountain on Saturday, Sept. 12.

Press release from event organizers:

Asheville, North Carolina sets the stage for year 6 of the Southeast’s premiere street dance event: The Southeast B-Boy Championships 6 (SEBC 6), sponsored by The Urban Dance & Educational Foundation (UDEF) along with Silverback B-Boy Events. Top dancers from across the US and beyond will gather to battle it out in 2 separate competitions for over $5,000 in cash and prizes, a grand prize trip to Freestyle Session in Los Angeles CA, and the coveted Southeast Crown. SEBC 6 is however, more than a battle. This is a family-friendly event aimed at creating awareness and unity through proactive participation within the local community as well as fostering the peaceful and positive principles that have laid the foundation for modern street dance that is today, a global community.

A battle is essentially, a competition between two individuals or crews. Since the dawn of Hip Hop in the Bronx, New York during the early 1970s, battles have, and still do take place as impromptu contests “on the street”, where rival members of opposing crews attempt to display their mastery of the dance over one another. These days, however, a typical battle is an organized event where street dancers come together to compete at a predetermined location and are judged by a respected panel of their own peers.

SEBC 6 also creates the opportunity to build awareness for an artistic and cultural movement that has long been overlooked in the local community. This event offers an entire day of workshops, music, history, education and of course dancing, for all ages and skill levels as well boasting an all-star cast of Dj’s and dancers including: DJ. CUES of Seattle, Wa., a judges panel from Philadelphia, PA., Atlanta, GA. And New York City along with B-Boy Frantic and Asheville’s own Dj Brett Rock as well as an all new, live graffiti exhibition with Izms of Art plus others.

This year, SEBC is pleased to announce the official SEBC 6 afterparty also at New Mountain, featuring the live funk sounds of Fusik all the way from Miami, FL. along with Stereoloud, Methuzulah & Cesar Comanche supporting.

SEBC 6 takes place September 12, 2015 at New Mountain, Downtown Asheville, NC. The entry fee includes registration for all competitions throughout the entire event. All competitions, workshops and performances run on Saturday Sept. 12th from 2pm-9pm and 10pm-2am. Kids 10 years of age and under get in for free.
