Sunrise opens new Recovery Community Center for peer to peer recovery support

Press release from Sunrise Community:

Sunrise: A Community for Recovery and Wellness is a not for profit entity.  We are the first peer staffed/peer managed recovery based organization in Western NC. Sunrise is opening a new Recovery Community Center (RCC) on July 1, 2016. The mission is to help recoverees navigate their own recovery by eliminating institutional and personal barriers to those processes. We also seek to serve as a community umbrella to all local organizations with similar missions. We have a new office space at 370 N Louisiana Ave Suite C4 in addition to continuing our partnership at Kairos West Community Center at 610 Haywood Road.  Sunrise evolved from a 501c3 that has served the area since 2006 originally utilizing volunteers who focused on recovery educational needs of Western NC eventually supporting a broader range of recovery oriented community systems in the area. Now it has changed in name and focus into an empowerment oriented, community outreach/advocacy and direct recovery service system.

The N. Louisiana Ave office will be our administrative and programmatic hub as we continue to outreach in surrounding areas.  We need volunteers (in both recovery and recovery allies) to populate the office. We already know many of our community needs. We are committed to listening to your ideas about needs as well. We continue to add to our core missions:

Host “All Recovery Meetings” (ARM) to rally community resources and support
Provide Peer Support for community outreach and recovery
Supply Recovery Coaching
Administer Peer Support for single mothers with addiction challenges
Continue Jail in reach/outreach/diversion
Staff A Hope Shelter every third Saturday
Run Recovery Support Groups
Maintain Warm Line (for information)
Propagate Jobs for ex-offenders and advocacy
Seek better pay for peer support
Produce and Anchor Recovery and Wellness Radio Show
Implement a “Peer University” (Free Continue Education Units (CEUs) monthly
