Press release from the venue:

Bill Bares’ “Take Two: Jazz Duets” at the White Horse Black Mountain is now in it’s second year with considerable momentum and all new lineups. Each month, the innovative series pairs one the Asheville’s jazz community’s finest players with Bares’ piano, spotlighting the individual artistry and improvisational interplay of both musicians. Vibraphonist Matthew Richmond is the featured guest for the April installment on Monday, April 6 at 7:30 p.m.

Composer, percussionist and educator Matthew Richmond is at home in many musical styles, including rock, jazz, symphonic, world music, musical theater, and drum and bugle corps. His recording and performing resume is extensive and varied, but his Take Two appearance will focus on the melodic, rhythmic and harmonic possibilities of the vibraphone’s shimmering tone. He currently teaches at UNC-Asheville.

Holding the concerts on Mondays, normally a quiet spot on the club scene, signals that Take Two is “all about the music”, in Bares’ words, and the format ensures that every show is a unique experience. The performances have been recorded, with an eventual release planned to document the best musical moments. A typical show includes compositional elements from the minds of both players and lots of space for free improvisation.

Show begins at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $12.
Advance tickets available online.
