The Collider, globally-focused climate center, seeks votes for NC innovation challenge

The Collider, “a new workspace to stimulate creative collisions and strategic solutions in the climate and environmental data services industries,” is slated to open this summer at 1 Haywood Street downtown. By promoting an industry-specific coworking environment, the Collider team hopes to “accelerate climate literacy and the data-to-decision marketplace through interactive, sector-focused workshops, education sessions and events.”

Although based in Western North Carolina, the center aims to become a global information hub, collecting and disseminating knowledge to an entire industry with an overarching goal of forward progress through collaboration. The 26,000 square foot multi-use workspace, which includes communal and private office spaces and a technology theatre, is led by Asheville Buncombe Sustainable Community Initiatives in partnership with The Callen Center.

Without yet opening its doors, the Collider has already garnered attention from the scientific community. As a finalist for the Institute for Emerging Issues’ “North Carolina Spaces for Innovation” challenge, the Collider stands to become featured prominently in IEI’s 30th annual Emerging Issues Forum, this year entitled “Innovation Reconstructed,” on Monday and Tuesday, Feb. 9-10 at the Raleigh Convention Center.
