This Week at the Altamont Theatre

PRESS RELEASE: ALTAMONT THEATRE

We have a very busy week ahead! It all begins this Tuesday with our annual event, The Passion Show, brought to us by our friends at Earth Path Education, with a live performance from Luna Ray and her band. The music continues on Wednesday evening with not one but two shows! The early show is An Evening with Eliza Gilkyson, the fabulous, critically acclaimed singer/songwriter, and then at 9:30 we feature Austin, TX based singer/songwriter Lew Card. Thursday night has been a long time coming, we are incredibly excited to welcome Iain Matthews (of Fairport Convention) and Andy Roberts all the way from England to our stage performing “Reinventing Richard: The Songs of Richard Farina.” And Friday night is legendary Canadian musician Corb Lund and his band. Corb has been named “Roots Artist of the Year” by the Canadian Country Music Association for seven consecutive years.

And, Saturday Morning Yoga with Wes continues this Saturday, April 16th, at 9am, what a great way to start your day!

Just one show announcement for you this week, we’ve finally re-scheduled Grammy Winner Mark O’Connor, for a daytime workshop and an evening concert on Saturday June 18th. Tickets and more information are available HERE. You folks on our email list have first dibs on tickets, this show show sold out in advance last time.

This Wednesday night at 7pm join us for Eliza Gilkyson, a politically minded, poetically gifted, Grammy nominated singer-songwriter who has become one of the most respected musicians in folk and Americana music circles. The daughter of legendary songwriter Terry Gilkyson, Eliza entered the music world as a teenager, recording demos for her father. Since then she has released 20 recordings of her own, and her songs have been covered by such notables as Joan Baez, Bob Geldof, Tom Rush and Rosanne Cash. Doors are at 7pm, the show begins at 7:30pm and tickets are available HERE.

Our “late” show this Wednesday night is Lew Card. A “veteran songwriters songwriter,” Lew Card is no stranger to life on the road and in the studio. After playing mandolin in various Austin bands over the last decade, Card has set out the last few years on creating his own music. On his 3rd release, Follow Me Down out January 1, 2016 on his newly formed label Monomer Recording Company, Card branches out into new sonic territory. Doors are at 9:30pm the show starts at 9:45pm and tickets are available HERE. You can catch Lew live on WNCW this Wednesday morning at 10:10am where he’ll be playing a few tunes and chatting about life on the road as a musician.

This Thursday we are absolutely thrilled to welcome Plainsong! Featuring Iain Matthews of Fairport Convention along with Andy Roberts, they’ll be performing “Reinventing Richard: The Songs of Richard Farina.” Plainsong was first conceived and formed by Iain Matthews and Andy Roberts, in 1972 and they disbanded after one relatively successful album, “In search of Amelia Earhart.” Doors are at 7pm the show starts at 8pm and tickets are available HERE.

And this Friday we welcome legendary Canadian singer/songwriter Corb Lund and his band! Corb has won just about every award and recognition possible in Canada and his last studio album, 2012’s Cabin Fever, hit #1 in Canada its first week, was certified gold, made the Polaris Music Prize longlist and led to him making big strides in the U.S. In addition to helping him secure a foothold in America, avowed fan Miranda Lambert invited Lund to open several stadium shows for her and Dierks Bentley and record made an impression with the media; raves came from NPR, Uncut (9 out of 10) the New York Times and the Washington Post, which exclaimed: “Lund is a revelation, laconic and scary smart, with a devil’s eye for details.” Doors are at 7pm the show starts at 8pm and tickets are available HERE.
