Times-News: YMCA in Polk County discussed again

From the Times-News

Story by Gina Malone

There is talk once again of locating a YMCA in Polk County or Landrum, S.C. The subject was broached without details at last month’s Tryon town council meeting, and a recent feasibility study showed that 1,500 people could be expected to join such a facility in the area.

Some local leaders and residents wanted to open a facility with an indoor pool at Harmon Field in 2008, but even though funds that might have been used for that purpose had been received from anonymous donors, it was determined that there was not enough interest communitywide to sustain a center.
