Press release:

Join us for an exclusive tour of “In the Oaks,” a National Register property located in Black Mountain, NC on Friday, October 23rd and Saturday, October 24th. The Tudor manor house was once the 2nd largest home in the area after Biltmore. Hidden “in the oaks,” the nondescript mansion was built to have a good time and entertained 1920s flappers and silent film stars with its Prohibition-era secret wine cellar. The estate was donated to the Episcopal Diocese in the 1950s and is now part of Montreat College’s campus.

The tours are led by historic interpreters dressed in period attire and each room includes historical reenactors. Guided tours begin at 5:30 pm, 6 pm, 6:30 pm, 7 pm, 7:30 pm. and 8 pm. Tours will last approximately 2 hours. Pre-registration is required. Spaces fill up fast. The cost is $25 for museum members and $35 for non-members.

The event also features live music, exhibits of original photographs and objects from the museum’s collection, and refreshments. Feel free to come dressed for the occasion and celebrate Halloween with the museum!
