Tourists announce new fireworks policy

Here’s the press release from the Asheville Tourists:

ASHEVILLE—Single-game tickets for the Asheville Tourists’ 2014 season are on sale at the Tourists’ ServPro Box Office at McCormick Field, online at theashevilletourists.com or by calling the front office at (828) 258-0428.

Tickets are available for all 70 of the team’s home games scheduled for the 2014 campaign, including all eight of the Tourists’ Fireworks Shows. After seeking fan feedback, Tourists president Brian DeWine announced the team will have a new seating policy for the eight contests that also feature fireworks.

All bleacher-back seats will be reserved for the fireworks games, while “general admission” seating will be limited to the concrete stands at McCormick Field. Prices for six fireworks games will be the same price as all other Tourists contests. The exceptions are the Independence Weekend Fireworks on July 4-5, where all advance tickets are $10.50 and a dollar more if any remain on game day.

In addition, fans with a general admission Flex Voucher will be able to exchange it at any time at the Tourists’ ServPro Box Office for a reserved bleacher-back seat to any of the six fireworks shows. Flex Vouchers cannot be used for the games on July 4-5.

“Over the past few seasons our fireworks shows have been some of our most heavily attended games of the year,” DeWine said. “We realized from a game-day operations standpoint and through fan feedback that keeping the experience organized, comfortable and safe for everyone necessitated the change to reserved seating for our bleacher-back seats.”

Prices for general admission tickets will remain unchanged for the 2014 season. Tickets purchased at least 24 hours in advance of the game will be $7 for adults and $6 for children age 12 and under, military personnel and seniors age 65 and over. Prices are one dollar more when purchased on the day of the game. This marks the sixth straight season the Tourists have not increased the cost of advance general admission tickets and the fifth consecutive campaign game-day pricing has remained at its current price.

Advance-sale box seats are $10.50 for adults and $8.50 for children 12 and under, military and seniors age 65 and over when purchased 24 hours prior to game time and one dollar more if bought on the day of the game.

“We are constantly trying to do everything possible for families throughout Western North Carolina to keep the price of coming to a Tourists game as affordable as possible,” DeWine said. “Families are the core of our fan base, and we want to make sure they are able from a financial standpoint to bring everyone out to the game in order to have a great time.”

The Tourists open the 2014 season at McCormick Field on April 3 against the Delmarva Shorebirds, beginning at 7:05 p.m. Opening Night promotions include free magnetic schedules, sponsored by the North Carolina Education Lottery and PlumbSmart Technologies, and Thirsty Thursday, which is sponsored by Wild Wing Café and 105.9 The Mountain.
