Twin Rivers Media Festival returns, Sept. 11 & 12

The annual Twin Rivers Media Festival, now in its 22nd year, screens independent features, documentaries, shorts and animated films. The free event takes place Friday, Sept. 11, and Saturday, Sept. 12, at the Phil Mechanic Building (109 Roberts St.).

The 22ndAnnual season of The Twin Rivers Media Festival (TRMF) will celebrate this year, screening the latest in independent features, documentaries, short and animated films. The festival highlights world premieres on September 11th and 12th at the Phil Mechanics Building at 109 Roberts St. in the River Arts District of Asheville, NC. All screenings are free and open to the public.

Carlos Steward, founder and director of the Twin Rivers Media Festival, stated, “we are thrilled to once again bring to our Western North Carolina community an incredibly diverse program with over 40 independent films from around the world.” With an exciting season programmed, the festival will kick off with opening night on September 11th at the Courtyard Gallery beginning at 8PM with the screening of ‘Pagdi, the Honour by Rajeev Bhatia of India.”

Short Dramas, Documentaries, Animated Films, and Experimental Films continue on September 12 from 1pm to 10pm. Documentary Winner screen from 1pm to 3pm, Experimental winners show from 3pm to 4pm, Short Drama Winners screen from 4pm to 6pm and again from 7:30pm to 10:30pm.

TRMF has become the festival of choice for filmmakers and film lovers who are seeking a unique River Arts District experience and a place to indulge their passion for film. The Festival connects audiences to compelling documentaries, award-winning international releases with tantalizing discussions with visiting filmmakers.

The selection process was rigorous and exclusive. Only a small percentage of the submitted films are chosen to screen in the festival. There will be 12 World Premiers this year and another 15 North American Premiers. Florida State University Film School was able to qualify 8 films in the student film category again this year, continuing their sweep of the most winning film school in the Twin Rivers Media Festival’s 22 year history.

All events are free and open to the public and take place in the Courtyard Gallery, upstairs in the Phil Mechanics Building, at 109 Roberts St. in Asheville’s River Arts District.
