Two Sisters Farmstead School is offering free monthly Family Discovery Days for children and adults to play and learn outdoors. One Saturday of every month will be devoted to programming for the entire family, designed to promote community and teach natural science concepts. The first Family Discovery Day will be on Saturday, June 25 at the Farmstead, 218 Morgan Cove Road in Candler. Families can join the morning session from 10 am-12 noon or the afternoon session from 1 pm-3 pm. The noon-1 pm hour is open for free play and picnic lunches for everyone.

The theme for June 25 is “What’s Here?” Participants will become experts on one native plant and take turns teaching it to others. Everyone will experience the food chain in the game of Owls, Mice and Seeds. Adventurous families can hike the Ridge Trail to search for wild animals. Lastly, families will take “solo” hikes back down the trail to experience nature together.
Family Discovery Days are free and there is no registration required. More Family Discovery Days are scheduled for the following Saturdays: July 16, August 13, September 10, and October 15. Find out more at www.twosistersfarmstead.org/programs/family-discovery-days or call 828/707.4236.

About Two Sisters Farmstead School

Two Sisters Farmstead School exists to foster experiences that unearth the connections between people, food, and nature. We aim to create a village of lifelong learners who possess the skills of sustainability and appreciate the intrinsic value of the Earth.

The local non-profit organization is designed to teach natural sciences, homesteading, life skills, sustainability, and agriculture to children and families. The Farmstead offers summer camps, a half-day pre-K program, science classes for homeschoolers, large group tours and lessons, scouting merit badges and drop-in childcare. The organization sets itself apart by focusing on the importance of natural science concepts to students of all ages. The rigorous course of study teaches scientific reasoning skills and an understanding of earth and environmental science using age-appropriate methodology. The Farmstead fills several vital community needs: connecting youth with their environment, promoting healthy eating skills, teaching scientific reasoning and increasing the amount of time that people spend outside.
