UNC Asheville Celebrates Homecoming Feb. 25-27

UNC Asheville alumni and students, and friends of the university will celebrate Homecoming 2016 with a parade, Bulldog basketball and much more Feb. 25-27.

The annual Homecoming Parade, with the theme “Once Upon a Homecoming,” will begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 27 on University Heights, the road that loops the UNC Asheville campus.

Here is the schedule of Homecoming 2016 events:

Thursday, Feb. 25:

·        Homecoming Welcome Social – A chance for alumni to reconnect, reminisce and catch up. Free appetizers courtesy of UNC Asheville Alumni Association. 6-8 p.m. at Twisted Laurel, 2nd floor, 130 College Street, downtown Asheville. (alumni and guests only)
·        Bulldog Men’s Basketball – UNC Asheville vs. Liberty, 7 p.m. at Kimmel Arena. Information and tickets at uncabulldogs.com
·        5th Annual Nearly Naked Mile – UNC Asheville students run a mile in bathing suits, donating their clothes to the Asheville Homeless Network. 10 p.m. at University Heights. (students only)
Friday, Feb. 26:

·        Bulldog Big Wheel Race – UNC Asheville students and employees will race unique big wheel creations. 6 p.m. around the Quad. (public viewing permitted)
·        Pep Rally, LipSync Contest and Step Show – 7-9:30 p.m. in Lipinsky Auditorium (public viewing permitted)
Saturday, Feb. 27:

·        Homecoming Parade – Music, dancing, floats and skits. 11 a.m. at University Heights. (public viewing permitted)
·        Homecoming Tailgate – Burgers and veggie burgers courtesy of the UNC Asheville Alumni Association. Bring your own lawn chairs, coolers and snacks. 11:30 a.m. in Zeis Hall parking lot P25. (alumni, students, faculty, staff and guests welcome)
·        Bulldog Basketball Doubleheader – UNC Asheville women vs. Campbell at 2 p.m., followed by UNC Asheville men vs. Coastal Carolina at 4:30 at Kimmel Arena. One ticket; two games, with information and tickets at uncabulldogs.com. (alumni by-the-decade receptions between games in the Sherrill Center)
·        Homecoming 2016 Closeout Celebration – Post-game get together for alumni will feature drink specials, complimentary appetizers and a DJ. 8-11 p.m. in the Century Room at Pack’s Tavern, 20 Spruce Street in downtown Asheville. (alumni and guests)
·        Homecoming Dance – The on-campus finish for Homecoming will feature food, music and dancing at Highsmith Union in the Grotto. (tickets for students and alumni at the Highsmith Information Desk)
