UNCA’s college newspaper wins five awards from N.C. College Media Association

The Blue Banner, UNC Asheville’s student newspaper, has earned five awards from the N.C. College Media Association.

The Blue Banner earned best of show honors in the small newspaper category along with four other schools with enrollments less than 6,000 students. Several staff members also took home individual honors:

First place for photography: May 2012 graduate Dustin Stuart

Second place for news writing: senior Jackie Starkey

Third place for page design: May 2012 graduate Hali Ledford

Honorable mention for page design: senior Auburn Petty

The awards were announced at the N.C. College Media association’s annual conference, which took place at North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro on Feb. 16. UNC Asheville will host next year’s conference. The association is a special program sponsored by the UNC School of Journalism and Mass Communication at UNC-Chapel-Hill.
