PRESS RELEASE FROM WESTERN CAROLINA MEDICAL SOCIETY:
A change in the demographic of Project Access®patients has resulted in a drastic increase in medication expenses. The medication budget for the program for the entire year has already been reached. We are in urgent need for additional medication funding. Project Access®, in this time of high demands, needs $10,000 a month to support medication needs of its patients. Access to medications could make the difference between a deteriorating health issue and a successful recovery. We need the continued support of donors like you to ensure that we can continue to offer medications to Project Access® patients. Help keep Project Access®patients on the path to better health by making a donation to the WCMS Foundation at projectaccess@mywcms.org or 828-274-6989.

“Project Access fills an urgent need in our community, allowing us to coordinate preventive and wellness care that keeps patients’ overall health at a higher level. As a result, our volunteer physicians limit the episodes of crisis care such as hospitalization or emergency care, which is always more expensive and less desirable for patients,” says Bill Hathaway, M.D., Chief Medical Officer for Mission Health Systems.

More than 2,500 low-income, uninsured patients receive healthcare through Project Access® every year. Even with the Affordable Care Act, nearly 14% of Buncombe County Residents remain uninsured. These community members need programs such as Project Access® so they can live healthier lives. Every $1 invested in Project Access produces a return of $15 in medical care.
