Warren Wilson College students awarded Derieux Prizes

Here’s the press release from Warren Wilson College:

Three Warren Wilson College students who presented their research at the annual meeting of the N.C. Academy of Science in Raleigh have been awarded Derieux Prizes for Excellence in Undergraduate Research.

The following Warren Wilson students received prizes for original research: Austin Patton, first place, Zoology, Botany and Ecology (Adviser JJ Apodoca); Luna Dietrich, second place, Microbiology, Chemistry, Health and Behavioral Sciences (Adviser Steve Cartier); and Katie Pannier, third place, Microbiology, Chemistry, Health and Behavioral Sciences (Adviser John Brock). Patton and Dietrich had received fully funded Yarbrough Research Grants from the NCAS (Collegiate Academy) this past fall.

Warren Wilson students Miche Stewart-Nunez, Armin Weise and Stephanie Williams also presented their original research at the annual meeting.

Over the years Warren Wilson students have won more N.C. Academy of Science awards for their undergraduate research than students from any other college or university in the state.
