WCQS is pleased to announce its 2nd annual Cut the Cold Challenge with Eblen Foundation, which will take place during the upcoming Fall Membership Drive. Last year the challenge was held during one day of the drive and raised more than $35,000 in pledges which were matched by Eblen Foundation for the heating assistance programs through Eblen Charities. This year the challenge will take place throughout the entire WCQS Fall Membership Drive, Oct. 10 – 18. Every gift made to WCQS during that time will be matched by Eblen Foundation to provide heating assistance to people in need this winter.
“We are honored to be able to partner with Eblen Foundation, and we hope the challenge will help build awareness of the work they are doing to help people in need in our community.” says WCQS President and CEO, Jody Evans. “Every dollar pledged to WCQS helps us stay a strong, independent source for news, music and entertainment in Western North Carolina. And with this partnership – every dollar pledged to WCQS will make the coming winter months warmer and healthier for citizens across our region.”
In less than a month Eblen Charities will begin its heating assistance program that will help keep thousands of children, adults and families warm during the upcoming winter months. “With a great many indications that this may well be a very cold winter, we anticipate a record number of families seeking help through Eblen,” says Bill Murdoch, Executive Director of Eblen Foundation. “No one should be left out in the cold. With the challenges we’re facing this winter, we are honored to be partnering with WCQS again to Cut the Cold.”
Eblen Foundation Executive Director, Bill Murdoch, will join WCQS President and CEO, Jody Evans, on the air during Morning Edition, Friday Oct. 12 from 7 – 9 a.m.

WCQS broadcasts NPR news and information programs and classical music during the day, with the BBC World Service overnight. The station serves listeners throughout Western North Carolina with three primary stations and eight translators located in mountain communities.
