Western N.C. Sierra Club chapter announces endorsement of Gordon Smith for Buncombe County Commission

Announcement from WENOCA:

There are a number of good candidates for Buncombe County Commission in District 1; however, one candidate stands out for his record on protecting our environment, and that is Gordon Smith. As a member of the Asheville City Council, Smith has a long record of voting to make Asheville one the leading cities in the country for its environmental initiatives. Smith lead efforts to double the city’s carbon reduction goal from 2% to 4% and supported funding initiatives that have reduced the city’s carbon footprint by 27% which both prevents global warming and saves taxpayers money. He has supported our transit system by voting to provide bus service on Sunday’s and holidays. He has supported efforts to increase recycling by 25% and the successful efforts to close Duke’s Coal Powered Electric Plant. If elected to the Buncombe County Commission representing the Asheville area, the Sierra Club believes that Gordon Smith will lead efforts to implement smart environmental solutions in Buncombe County.
