Wingfield: I stand with citizens of Newland in defense of Ten Commandments

Here’s the press release from the congressional campaign of Ethan Wingfield:

Arden, North Carolina – A Wisconsin-based organization is demanding the city of Newland, North Carolina, immediately remove the Ten Commandments on display outside of the clerk’s office. The Ten Commandments have been proudly presented outside of the clerk’s office since the construction of the town hall. The organization, Freedom From Religion Foundation, has not yet decided whether they will seek legal action against Newland.

Congressional candidate and conservative Republican Ethan Wingfield denounced this outrageous assault on the First Amendment and the Christian faith.

“This is not the first time I have seen such an outrageous attack on our Christian faith and heritage,” said Wingfield. “In college, I served as the president of a Christian organization that was banned from campus by a liberal administration. I publicly fought this attack on our faith, and the group was quickly reinstated. Now with President Obama assaulting the Catholic Church and radical atheist groups attacking the display of the Ten Commandments, the time has come to take a stand once again.”

“The Ten Commandments are the governing principles and foundation of our most basic laws and rights. I believe there is no better place to display this sacred document than in a city hall or a courthouse. Why should we disregard the wishes of the citizens of Newland in order to appease an atheist special-interest group based hundreds of miles away in another state? I will proudly stand with the people of Newland in defense of the Ten Commandments.”

“We must never waver in the fight to defend our shared conservative values, faith, and freedom, which founded the greatest nation our world has ever seen. If elected to Congress, I will support legislation that permanently protects the right of communities to display documents, like the Ten Commandments, that are a proud part of the foundation and founding of our country.”
