Winter Sun Farms expands pickup sites, estimates raised

Press release from AdvantageWest Economic Development Group:

The numbers for the Winter Sun Farms community supported agriculture program are staggering: Blue Ridge Food Ventures purchased 14,300 pounds of produce from local farms last year, then processed, froze, and distributed it to about 300 CSA members. This year, those numbers are estimated to be closer to 19,000 pounds for 400 members as Winter Sun Farms expands to five pickup sites, including Greenville, SC. The unique program helps provide an additional source of income for area farms, 35 of which have grown and supplied produce for the program since it started five years ago. More than 20 additional farms and businesses have benefited from selling their goods at the tailgates and winter markets that take place in conjunction with the monthly Winter Sun Farms pickups.
