WNC aging and environmental health conference, May 20

The Western North Carolina aging and environmental health conference will be held at the Mountain Horticultural Crops Research and Extension Center, 455 Research Drive, Mills River, from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm on May 20. The intended audience is individuals who serve older adults as resource providers or caretakers.
Overview: Older adults can be particularly susceptible to the health effects of environmental issues. Yet, there are simple steps that can be taken to protect their health. The attendees of this free conference will learn about six different environmental issues which affect the elderly more than the general public and simple things older individuals can do to protect their health. The attendees will receive materials and training to be able to provide this information to those they serve.

The conference will cover environmental health issues as they relate specifically to older adults.  Any individual who works with or serves older adults is welcome to attend and will learn more about environmental health issues in Western North Carolina and how to protect their health. Each session will provide attendees with the background to communicate effectively about the issues discussed.  Attendees will receive an annotated PowerPoint to share with older adults or others.
