WNC Alliance will hold clean energy rally Aug. 24

From the WNC Alliance:

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – At 2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 24, hundreds of community members will attend Asheville Beyond Coal’s rally for clean energy and climate action in Pack Square Park.
Despite growing demand for clean energy solutions and meaningful action to protect North Carolina from climate disruption, Duke Energy still powers Asheville with Western North Carolina’s leading source of carbon pollution—coal, much of which is derived from Appalachian mountaintop removal.
Sierra Club activist and actor Ian Somerhalder (“The Vampire Diaries,” “Lost”) will join Asheville Mayor Terry Bellamy, national Beyond Coal campaign director Mary Anne Hitt, and Rev. Thomas Murphy of All Souls Episcopal to call for clean energy solutions for Asheville.
The rally program will include musical performances and families with young children are encouraged to come out and enjoy the festival-like atmosphere at the event.
The rally will last about two hours.
