WNCA’s 2013 ‘Save the French Broad River Paddle Trip’ starts Saturday
ASHEVILLE – The 2013 “Save the French Broad River Paddle Trip,” a nine-day journey down the storied waterway, kicks off Saturday morning at the river’s headwaters in Rosman.
The Western North Carolina Alliance’s French Broad Riverkeeper, Hartwell Carson, will lead the sold-out trip over 115 miles to the North Carolina/Tennessee state line. The beauty of the river will unfold as participants paddle and camp along WNCA’s French Broad River Paddle Trail, a series of paddle in-only sites spaced about 12-15 miles apart.
For those who didn’t sign up in time to participate in this year’s trip, WNCA is offering an official map of the paddle trail, a comprehensive guide to all the access points of interest to paddlers seeking to enjoy this world-class resource.
The map guides paddlers to seven new campsites that were strategically placed to connect with previously existing campgrounds—all the way from Rosman, to Douglas Lake, Tenn.—on land leased from private landowners and the state of North Carolina.
The map also details access points, amenities, outfitters, regional attractions and important information that every paddler will want to know, whether they’re out for an afternoon or for a week on the river.
The official French Broad River Paddle Trail Map is a collaboration with Fish Water Maps and is available for purchase at local and regional outfitters, as well at WNCA’s online store at www.wnca.org (under the “Join & Donate to WNCA” tab).
The public can also reserve campsites along the French Broad River Paddle Trail at wnca.org/paddle.
