PRESS RELEASE FROM WHITE HORSE BLACK MOUNTAIN:
The indigenous people of the Pacific Northwest keep a treasure trove of Raven Tales, in which the shape-shifting trickster’s actions illuminate human behavior. There’s certainly a shape-shifting quality to the music of Yes the Raven, the singer-songwriter persona of Alyn Mearns, which feels contemporary yet linked to something ancient. Mearn’s classical guitar training shows in his virtuosic and haunting guitar soundscapes, and his soaring vocals summon deep magic and mystery. A native of Belfast, Northern Ireland, Mearns’ songs have a spiritual connection to the great beauty and tragedy of that land without overtly referencing its traditional music. As an inheritor of Celtic mysticism and a standard bearer of the best of current songwriting, Yes the Raven’s lyrics are profoundly poetic, sometimes direct and sometimes oblique, and his orchestral guitar work is an equal partner in his singular vision. Yes the Raven returns to the White Horse Black Mountain on Friday, August 12 at 8 p.m. for a special birthday show debuting new songs from his upcoming release The Power and the Glory.
Show begins at 8 p.m. Tickets are $10 advance/$12 door.
