Yo Mama’s Big Fat Booty Band announces fall tour, including homecoming stop at the Orange Peel, Nov. 12

Press release

‘Cheeky funk’ group Yo Mama’s Big Fat Booty Band is embarking on an ambitious fall tour in support of their latest album Funk Life, with stops throughout the southeast including performances at The Orange Peel (Asheville, NC), 1904 (Jacksonville, FL), WorkPlay Theatre (Birmingham, AL), and Charleston Pour House (Charleston, SC), and a four-date run of shows in support of NOLA funk jam band Galactic. A full list of dates can be found below.

The Asheville, NC based funkadelic 5-piece features smokin’ horns, a keytar slinging babe-a-licious brunette, and old school funk rhythms. Funk Life, their 3rd studio album release, was fittingly conceived in the back seat of a 1972 Impala while listening to a mix tape of P-Funk, Sly and the Family Stone, Buddy Miles, Aretha Franklin, Tower of Power, and James Brown. So pervasive were these influences that keyboardist/vocalist Mary “Mama Funk” Frances wrote the track “Living the Dream” in a sleep-charged vision of George Clinton and Garry Shider of P-Funk teaching her the melodic riff. Other stand outs on the album include lead track “24/7” featuring sassy vocals with contagious rhythms and bold horn hits; “Wake Yo Self,” a caffeinated dance track that builds to a keys-driven crescendo; and a bold cover of the woman-power manifesto “Mama Feel Good”.

Yo Mama’s Big Fat Booty Band have shared stages with funk masters George Clinton’s P Funk, New Mastersounds, DJ Le Spam, Pimps of the Joytime, and Galactic, and are regular favorites at festivals and venues across the country.
