“ZODIAC: Moon in Cancer” music and art event May 23

Local musicians and artists come together for a night of music and art under the heading, ZODIAC: Moon in Cancer. The show, featuring local bands illanthropy, Live Animals and The Ghost Of, takes place at The Boiler Room on Saturday, May 23.

Press release from organizers:

On Saturday, May 23, Full Phase Media and Plugged In Publicity join forces with local producers to present ZODIAC at the Boiler Room.

The night’s lineup includes illanthropy, Live Animals and The Ghost Of. Music will begin at 9:30 p.m.

Headlining the night is illanthropy. Known off the stage as Stephen Blasy, illanthropy is an Asheville, NC-based producer with more than his own agenda in mind. Several years into his DJ production pursuits, he decided that his live performances should be more than just a DJ on stage, hyping up the crowd, making the floor bounce, and being forgotten the next day. He blends big bass sounds, clear, ethereal melodies, and conscious thoughts in his production, working to inspire his crowd not only to dance, but to also try and expand their minds in a way that impacts their environment in a positive and significant way. illanthropy has performed at the Sol Bar at New Mountain Theater, Asheville Music Hall, and the OneStop, among other venues.

Asheville native Live Animals will be direct support. Live Animals is a culmination of all of life’s experiences, exploring new soundscapes and expanding the consciousness of sound. Between his West-coast hip hop influences and his entanglements in modern bass music, Live Animals creates a sound that transcends boundaries and blends genres, creating his own space on the map of the electronic dance music scene. With a background in percussion and music theory, Asheville native Josh Stone fuses melody and harmony to create pure sonic force. Live Animals has performed alongside Random Rab, Cashmere Cat, Thriftworks, Russ Liquid, SaQi, Nadus, Skymatic and more, performing at the Masquerade in Atlanta GA, New Mountain Asheville Theater, Asheville Music Hall, OneStop and beyond.

The Ghost Of will open the showcase, forging the path for the night’s journey with a DJ set from 9:30 to 10:30 p.m. According to his bio, “The Ghost Of is a towel, fresh out of the dryer. It’s a relaxing head massage from your lover on a lazy Saturday morning. It’s finding twenty dollars in an old jacket. It’s that new car smell, yet even more so. But above all else, The Ghost Of is ten thousand spoons, when all you need is a knife.”

The night will feature live music, live art from Resilient Madness, a pre-show cookout and much more, celebrating the moon’s movement into the constellation Cancer. Directly following sunset, the waxing crescent moon and Jupiter meet in the faintest of the zodiac constellations, creating the perfect space to reflect inward and use the internal, expansive energy to nurture and manifest our external reality.

Doors open at 9 p.m., and the show will begin at 9:30 p.m. Tickets are $3.
