Please take a few minutes to view the video from the link below. You
can access many other videos involving encounters with the "Occupy"
movement and APD Officers on YouTube as well. I see the officers being
antagonized but remaining professional in the performance of their
duties. Our officers encounter this type behavior on a daily basis now.
If there is any question why so many officers respond, it is simple
mathematics. We do our best to police and live by the +1 rule. In
other words and for officer safety purposes, it is better to have
numerous officers when dealing with with numerous persons of interest.
We do not know if the persons we encounter are suspects, victims,
witnesses, or simply citizens until we investigate further.

The treatment of Mr. Brown by the "Occupy" group pushes his level of
being belligerent to a high level. I am surprised the altercation did
not turn physical.

Please share this video as appropriate and make everyone aware these
encounters are being videoed. Please have your officers with in car
videos or the Vievu body cameras utilize these tools and video our
encounters as well in the event they become evidence for criminal
charges.

Thanks Sgt. Aardema for forwarding!

Captain and Lieutenant,

I was perusing the web today and came across this video. It is kind of a
mish-mash of goings-on with the group throughout the weekend, but the
reason I am sending it you is because of what was recorded in the last
few minutes of the video at the "Peace Camp" on Lexington. Captain, I
believe that it goes in line with the email you just forwarded from the
Moog folks. The gentleman seen being irate is Benjamin Brown, who is a
known criminal violator downtown and not a member of the occupy group. I
have had several officers tell me that Brown is angry at the group
because he has been arrested for trespassing on a number of occasions in
that same lot. I think this is representative of what is going on,
though....you can clearly hear some members of the group antagonizing
Brown, again in the last few minutes.
