The Downtown units have meet with them each evening and biked along
beside them as they march thru town. They are very good about cross
walks and obey all the laws that govern their march. After each march
they have come to us and asked if they did anything wrong and seem eager
to not cause any issues for law enforcement. So far, they have been very
open and friendly to our presence.

No arrests have been made and the issue we’ve had early on was camping
in public space such as sidewalks(impeding them) and other public spaces
such as the parks. We met with them and came to an agreement that they
could use private lots with owner permission. They’ve been quite
agreeable and peaceful. Might wish to make sure Command Staff is okay
with this release, however.

Subject: Occupy Asheville question
Hello Lt. Welch,
I just wanted to check in and see if the Asheville Police
Department had any troubles so far with the Occupy Asheville protesters,
what interactions the APD has had with their organizers, or if any
arrests related to the demonstrations have been made.
Thanks,
David Forbes
